With uncrowded beaches, a laid-back vibe, and a variety of nearby kite spots to explore, Progreso is the perfect escape from city life, all while being fully immersed in Mexican culture. With consistent winds nearly 300 days a year, shallow warm waters, and plenty of space, it’s a dream for learning, progressing, and joining advanced kiteboarding clinics. The friendly kitesurf community will make you feel right at home. Conveniently located just 30 minutes from Mérida International Airport, Progreso has everything you need—great local food, access to cenotes and pyramids, and comfortable kitesurf accommodations to rest after a day on the water. Progreso isn’t just a place to visit — it’s a place to belong.

Spots for every taste

More options, less than 30 minutes  from the villas, whatever the wind directions, we got you.

Our home spot, El Playon

Our home spot is a 2 km long beach where we kite most of the time and run our in-house kitesurf lessons and coaching, offering plenty of space to ride away from the crowds. It’s shallow for the first 500 meters, making it ideal for both beginners and independent riders, and works  with N, NW, and NE winds, averaging 18-25 knots. The wind is stable and reliable from late morning until evening, and the warm water creates the perfect setting for epic sunset sessions. With good kite infrastructure, a friendly kite community vibe, and a true "bed to board" experience when staying at our kite house in Progreso, this spot has everything you need for the ultimate kitesurf trip

La Ria

On SE wind days, we head to La Ría, a lagoon surrounded by mangroves, with flat, waist-deep water—ideal for kiteboarding lessons and progression. The wind blows onshore between 18 and 25 knots, from early morning to early afternoon, offering great conditions for riding.

Located just 10 minutes from our Kite Villas, La Ría is easily accessible. However, since the launch area can be gusty and tricky, we recommend not going alone. For beginners and less experienced riders, a boat service is available to take you to the upwind side of the lagoon, where safer and more favorable conditions await, and to assist with launching

Chuburna

This is by far our favorite spot! Located 20 km from our home spot, it’s usually uncrowded and offers butter-flat water, thanks to a 2-meter-high pier that creates a perfect wind shadow—a secret gem known mostly by locals.

The spot works best with NE wind and is ideal for advanced kiteboarding clinics or independent riders looking to improve tricks in flat conditions. Since there’s no infrastructure and the wind blows offshore toward a natural reserve, we recommend it for experienced riders only.

You can also reach it with an epic 1-hour downwinder from our Kite Villas, adding adventure to your session!

San Bruno

San Bruno is a beautiful white sand beach located just 30 minutes from our Kite Villas, offering a great escape to explore a new spot. Nestled between palm trees, it features a narrower beach than our home spot, with about 100 meters of shallow water, ideal for relaxed kitesurf sessions in a peaceful setting.

A local kite school provides basic infrastructure and a welcoming kite vibe, making it easy to enjoy a comfortable day on the water. And to top it off, after your session, you can enjoy a delicious wood oven pizza right on the beach—the perfect way to end a kiting day!
